Introduction

This month’s blog post explores the spiritual dimension of the Alexander Technique (AT). It features an interview with Dr. Jennifer Fox Eades, an AT teacher, ordained priest, and third-order Franciscan. In the discussion, she provides background on elements of Franciscan thinking and practice, and how commonalities emerged for her between these and her AT practice. Jennifer explains the significance of St. Clare of Assisi’s contribution to contemporary Franciscan thinking, and how these ideas have influenced her new book, which draws on her extensive teaching experience. ‘Embodying Prayer: Exploring Franciscan Spirituality with the Alexander Technique’ is available in paperback or as an e-book.

Revd Dr Jennifer Fox Eades PhD, PGCE, MSTAT, TSSF has worked all her life in education and studied for her PhD, in well-being in education, while training as an Alexander technique teacher. She graduated as an Alexander teacher in 2014 and received her PhD in 2018. Charlotte Woods retired from a Senior Lectureship at the Manchester Institute of Education, University of Manchester in 2016 after almost forty years of international experience in education. She qualified as a teacher of the Alexander Technique in 2017 and is a member of the STAT Research Group and part of the ASO team.
